Everything Went to Shit, Then Got Better
Journal #3

(I wrote this in march but im posting it on July 15th 2024,
because I guess I just forgot to post it lol)
Not really sure what direction I'm taking this post. I just need to talk about everything from the past few months.
Unwanted Apartment Guests
Since coming back to school it's been literal hell, since we found bedbugs in our apartment. They had apparently been in the building for years, but I guess it slipped my landlord's mind.
We had the place sprayed but because our downstairs neighbors are insane, they didn't properly prepare their unit (which was the source of the infestation), so the spray did not work. At that point we just decided to pack up and move out. I spent the next month scouring for apartments that were avaliable for rent ASAP.
We eventually found a new place that let us move in immediately, and it's a huge upgrade. I am amazed that it was even available this time of year. My room is so much better and I get insane amounts of sunlight. Proof that everything works out all the time.
Cough Buster Technologies
I'm a part of Western Cyber Society here at uwo, which is a club dedicated to giving compsci students industry knowledge and connections. As a part of this club, I work on a team building an AI powered pneumonia detection model. It scans xray images and classifies them as normal, bacterial pneumonia, viral pneumonia, and COVID-19. During this whole period while I was dealing with the bedbugs I was also developing this model. I managed to get it to an overall accuracy of 90.6% which I feel is pretty impressive (feel free to send me praise).
We presented out project in Kingston at CUCAI, and I got to meet a ton of other students also interested in AI who also had practical knowledge of the field. The conference was great but I was mostly just glad to hang out with my Queen's friends again.
Lazy Week
This past week, I did absolutely nothing, as I've just been so burnt out from all the stuff I mentioned above. It felt really great to just settle into our apartment and play video games and hang out with people. Today I really should get back into the grind, but I am having trouble with focusing which is what led me to write this post.
Random Thoughts
I guess the issue with blogging on the internet is I can't get too personal here. I'd like to share more about my life, but it's kind of hard considering anyone from my life could see it. There's also the issue of accidentally doxxing myself. I I've already got my real name and contact info up here, and so I gotta be pretty careful. At the same time though, who the hell is going through a random neocities blog?
Whatever! I just need to feel productive, and I haven't written a blog post in a while so there you go.
I'll probably drop another post soon about my involvement in the pneumonia project, as well as potentially a research paper about chatGPT??
Anyways goodbye for now guys,
- Declan
